Divine Trappings: Outstanding Tables, Part 2

Yesterday I talked about tables I aim to create for Divine Trappings. I found I’d picked up the easy one, but there are quite a few more elements to consider.

Elements not included yesterday…

  • Dogma (what followers are told)
  • Tenets (what followers often believe)
  • Duties
    • Obedience was included in yesterday’s list.
    • Covenants should be added, but are probably not a good candidate for a table. On the other hand, covenant definitions in Book of Immortals are pretty formulaic. A ‘covenant table’ that uses domain element tables may suit.
    • Quests are not quite as formulaic as covenants. An first cut can be done with tables, but expressing fully probably can’t.
    • Trials are about the same as quests.
  • Boons look like they’ll come in two flavors. One is like Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Inner Sea Gods, which I think won’t lend itself well to tables. The other is like what I did while working on Patrons of Low Fantasy, which might.
  • Priests (ordained worshipers) were already covered.
  • Followers (lay worshipers) were already covered.
  • Rites and Rituals can, at its base, be a list of spells not in the domain but appropriate for rituals. I imagine I can come up with a list of ritual name components. I can certainly come up with some ritual names (as with artifact names).
  • Special Locations were already covered.
  • Artifacts and Special Items were already covered.
  • Legends could be trouble. I can probably come up with some legend name components, and a generic ‘legend name’ table using these lists.
  • Allegiance was taken from Book of Immortals covenants, and can be a list (and thus, table). I like the more verbose expressions shown in Elements of Domain Aspects, though. I think I’ll have the list in the stat block and workbook, but include examples in the body text.
  • Bond looks more descriptive, and I’m not sure it’ll make a good table.

These elements are in several ways more complex than yesterday’s. I’m going to give this some more thought, see how I want to integrate them. I think this will be a ‘weekend post’, rather than a ‘workday post’. Just as well it’s almost the weekend.

And then, work an example to see how it looks altogether. I do still hope to get a domain aspect on a single page. If I have to go to a spread, though, I want to use it all.
